A cultural educational session in the urban environment of Riga, during which it will be possible to learn about interesting and significant events and places related to the history of medicine, health care and hygiene from the 13th century to the present day.

When was the first hospital founded in Riga? Where were the oldest pharmacies located? What is „umurkumurs“ and what happened there? What can be discovered in the city about ancient hygiene habits?

The history of medicine is closely connected to the history of Riga from its beginnings to the present day. The educational session is designed as an excursion in the Old Town. It begins outside the 13th century’s city walls at the Pauls Stradiņš Medicine History Museum and ends through the centuries in the Pharmacy Museum, where medicinal plant garden can be seen.
